Advance Planner

Welcome to the Standard Warrior Band and Color Guard. This page is designed to provide you with information the you need in order to stay informed and be able to plan ahead and be prepared for all band /guard activities.

FEE Information: Payable at the start of the year in August. We collect fees for two general but separate categories. Only some band members will have to pay both types of fees

* School Instrument Fees $35 (payable to STANDARD SCHOOL DISTRICT) All school instruments must be checked out each year and the maintenance fee paid. This must be taken care of ASAP at the beginning of the year.
* Band and Guard Fees (payable to STANDARD MIDDLE SCHOOL) These fees are for required items, including band/guard shoes ($23), t-shirts ($12 - XXL $14), uniform cleaning fees (band $12,CG $5), and band gloves ($3). Students pay for only those items that they need. (8th graders generally need less than 7th graders). These fees need to be paid within the first 2 weeks of school

Please note that there is no direct charge for uniforms. Band and Guard uniforms are provided free-of-charge for students to use during the year. Uniforms are then returned to the school at the end of year. However, charges will apply for lost items.

Calendar Information for 2010-2011

• Swim Party&BBQ 8/6, 5-8pm @NHS pool...all band/guard members and families invited
• CG Camp August 9,11,12,13 5-8pm @SMS... attendance required
• CAR WASH Sat 8/14, 8:30am to 1pm...SMS Cafeteria  (student and parent workers needed)
• BAND CAMP (7&8th grade WB/CB) @SMS FREE... attendance requested! August 16, 18,19, 20(plus probably 8/17)
  
• Instrument Display(starts 5pm) and ANNUAL PARENTS MEETING(starts 5:30pm) ..... 8/26
• CG after school practices TuTH until 4:45pm start 8/24
• Morning Practices (be here 7:25am) MWF start 8/30
• Garces band Competition, Saturday October 30
• Veterans Day parade Thursday November 11
• Stockdale HS band Competition, Saturday November 13
• Centennial band competition, Saturday November 20
• Pancakes and Pops, Saturday December 4
• Oildale Christmas Parade Saturday December 11
• CMEA Festival ThFr March 17&18...WB plays Fri 3/18 @Independence HS
• KCRTA meeting Tu March 22 @ Hodel's ..Small ensemble plays

NOTE: All WB/CB/CG members must attend ALL practices on time.... All WB/CB/CG members must attend all competitions, parades, and other events. No unexcused absences for performances are allowed. “Going out of town” is NOT an excused absence. For practices, if a student is a school, then they must be at practice, unless prior arrangements have been made with Mr.Walls. If you know about a conflict in advance, a parent note should be submitted in advance.

• Band members must stay in the class for the entire year! Guard members are committing to Fall season plus Spring practices and Knotts trip.
• We need band/guard members who are willing to work together to meet our 2009-10 goals (see goals pages). Band members who do not contribute in a positive way will have grades lowered. CG members can be removed from the team.
• SMS requires members to maintain a 2.0 GPA
• Because of time conflicts, GUARD members can not also play volleyball. BBall is OK!
• All band/guard members are expected to help with fund-raising projects. Adult help is also needed!

Communications: Besides this website (www.standardwarriorband.com), our other major line of communication is Email. If you are not currently on Mr W's email list, please send an email to gwalls@standard.k12.ca.us and request to be added. Students will also be given an "Email List" handout with more information. Band Phone is 392-2130, ext 5133 (with the ext number, you can call into the band room after hours and on Saturdays.)
