Band/Guard Advance Planner 2008

* School Instrument Fees $35 (payable to STANDARD SCHOOL DISTRICT) All school instruments must be checked out each year and the maintenance fee paid. This must be taken care of ASAP at the beginning of the year.
* Band and Guard Fees (payable to STANDARD MIDDLE SCHOOL) These fees are for for required items, including band/guard shoes ($23), t-shirts ($12 - XXL $14), uniform cleaning fees (band $12,CG $5), and band gloves ($3). Students pay for only those items that they need. (8th graders generally need less than 7th graders). These fees need to be paid within the first 2 weeks of school

Please note that there is no direct charge for uniforms. Band and Guard uniforms are provided free-of-charge for students to use during the year. Uniforms are then returned to the school at the end of year. However, charges will apply for lost items.

NEW optional item this year....Hoodies have arrived and are a big hit!!! We can only reorder if we get at least 12 people interested in buying. $30 each. We are now signing up people on a waiting list and will only collect money if we reach the minimum order.

• Percussion Practices Thursdays after school until 4:45 at least thru October
• CG PM practices all Fall TU & Th after school until 4:45pm, starts Tues 8/19 (resumes in April for Knotts)
• Morning WMB&CG marching practices all FALL MWF, starts Monday 8/25 be here 7:25 (resumes in April for Knotts)
• CG uniform Fitting after school Wed 10/15 until 4:45pm and Thurs 10/16 after practice until 5:45pm

• Band/CG Pictures... Tuesday October 28
  
• Veteran's Day Parade. Tuesday November 11, parade starts 10am
• Stockdale HS band comp .... Sat 11/15 (date changed from 11/8)
• Centennial HS "Music in Motion" ... Sat 11/22
• Pancakes and Pops... Sat 12/6 (All band, including beginners and guard required to attend)
• NOR Christmas Parade .... Sat 12/13
• CANDY SALE tentative date, usually last week of January, ending first week of February
• KC Honor Band auditions... Sat 1/24/09 @Actis JH
• KC HB practices Sat 2/14, Tues 2/17, Fri 2/27 @SMS ... final practice and concert Sat 2/28 at convention center
• KC OLF Snack Bar @SMS, Sat, 2/21...all day..donations and student/adult volunteers needed
• CMEA Festival (WB only) Th/Fri March 19&20 @ Stockdale HS (WB performs probably on Friday)
• Spring Concert Thursday May 7, 7pm (all band and cg members required to attend)
• Knotts trip, Tuesday May 12 (all day) WMB and CG
  

All WB/CB/CG members must attend all practices. ... All WB/CB/CG members must attend all competitions, parades, and other events. No unexcused absences for performances are allowed. “Going out of town” is NOT an excused absence. For practices, if a student is a school, then they must be at practice, unless prior arrangements have been made with Mr.Walls.

PLEASE REMEMBER

• Guard members must agree to participate in guard for the entire fall season plus spring practices and trip to Knotts Berry Farm. Band members must stay in the class for the entire year!
• We need members with good attitudes who cooperate with instructors and teammates. Poor attitudes and lack of cooperation will lower band grades and result in dismissal from the guard.
• SMS requires guard members to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Note #1: because of the time commitments listed above, CG members can’t be on the VB team.BB is OK!

Note #2: All band/guard members are expected to help with fund raising projects. Adult help will often be needed as well.

Communications: Besides the website (www.standardwarriorband.com), our other major line of communication is Email. If you are not currently on Mr W's email list, please send an email to gwalls@standard.k12.ca.us and request to be added. Students will also be given an "Email List" handout with more information. Band Phone is 392-2130, ext 5133 (with the ext number, you can call into the band room after hours and on Saturdays.)
