A Message from our BB President

Hello everyone!
We are now entering our final stretch of the year. There are many things happening both currently and in our near future. Events are listed on the calendar and in the advance planner.

As you know all schools are facing budget cuts and SMS is no exception. Our current band & guard program is in danger of some of these cuts. I would like to thank all the parents who have attended the last two meetings and have spoken to the Board on our behalf. I would also like to thank the many students who attend supporting our Band.

The next School Board  Meeting is May 13th at 7 pm at the School District office. This is also the date of our Warrior Band /Guard trip to Knotts, so several of us will not be able to attend. So if you are available, please be there on our behalf. Board has to make final budget decisions this month. So if you can not attend, please call 392-2110, write letters, or e-mail our superintendent, Dr. Silberberg and let him know you care. ksilberb@standard.k12.ca.us .
Even if you called once already, if it has been awhile, please make contact again!

If you have any questions please call me, Margie White @ 387-0488. Thank you.

CG Happenings

THIS WEEK ....  LAST Morning practices Monday 5/12.

Winter Guard ... Well, we have now tried PPAACC winter guard, and have shown Kern County that Warrior Guard is for real, whether it is on the street or in the gym!! We won our division by a large margin in both competitions AND also outscored ALL JUNIOR GUARDS in all classes and divisions at BHS. At NHS we outscored 8 out of the 9 junior guards as well, and were only .5 behind Edison from the OPEN division. Edison has been the local power house of WG for years and years! Not bad for our first season of winter guard. You can check out scores for yourself here.

NOTE ON BAND UNIFORM CLEANING  Please remember to take them to be cleaned now that marching season is over. Kleenerz on N Chester closed down on us but other Kleenerz are still offering a special deal (but no coupon). Just tell them you are from Standard when dropping off the uniform. DO NOT TAKE THE HANGER TO THE CLEANERS!!!! Also take off the collar liner and wash it at home. You may take the uniform to any place you wish but you will probably pay more.
