SMS Band News
< 6th grade Test Deadline is Friday May 25 < 6th grade Class Schedule for May 21-25 is WW MWF, B&P TuTh, but EVERYONE should bring instruments everyday this week!
< 6th and 7th graders staying in band (and you better!!!) and who would like to keep your school instrument over the summer (FOR FREE LESSONS!!), you must fill out a summer check-out form and get it signed by parent/guardian this week
< ALL WB folders must be at school NOW! ALL 8th grade school instruments must be at school NOW!
Color Guard News….
< “OLD” 2011-2012 CG is now done for the year. Thanks and Goodbye to our 8th graders. We will miss (most of) you : ) …. PLEASE bring back all practice equipment ASAP!
< “NEW” 2012-2013 CG is now “it” ! Last 2 practices before summer are TuTh this week (5/22&5/24) after school until 4:30

While reading this site, it is helpful to know the following abbreviations:
- DM Drum Major(s): student leader(s) of the WMB
- CG Color Guard: includes Flags, Rifles, and Shields
- WB Warrior Band: includes 7&8th graders in the Warrior Band (Advance Band) Class
- CB Concert Band: includes 7&8th graders in the Concert Band (Intermediate Band) Class
- BB Beginning Band: mainly 6th graders, but does include a few 7/8th graders as well
- WMB Warrior Marching Band, which automatically includes all WB members, plus those CB members who wish to participate.
- WMB &CG Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard. This is the group that performs in parades, competitions, school events, and goes to KNOTTS in the Spring.

The Standard Warrior Band has a long history of being an award-winning band, both indoors and outdoors. The Warrior Band received the California Music Educators Association “SUPERIOR” ratings in 1993-94-95-96, and in 1998-99,2000,2001, and a SMS record setting SIX years in a row in 2006,07,08,09,10, and 2011. For 2012, the Warrior Band received a rating of EXCELLENT.
Life can be hard. Sometimes it’s full of frustrations and disappointments. But in spite of it all, we preserve and suck up the pain, because at the end of it all ……. There is Ice Cream!! (PICKLES 4/6/12)
