Color Guard News….
< “OLD” 2011-2012 CG is now done for the year. Thanks and Goodbye to our 8th graders. We will miss (most of) you : ) …. PLEASE bring back all practice equipment ASAP!
< “NEW” 2012-2013 CG is now “it” ! Last 2 practices before summer are TuTh this week (5/22&5/24) after school until 4:30

NEW CG TEAM … AUDITION RESULTS!!!
Thanks to ALL who tried out. If you did not make it this year, please feel free to come back and try again next year. Congrats to those listed below who made the various squads. You will be having some practices during the last 2-3 weeks of school. Look here for announcements about NEW TEAM. Disregard news about current team. We will let you know about dates and times. Please remember to mark July 31, and August 2, 6, 8, 10 for optional CG SUMMER practices (times TBA). ALSO, remember to mark August 13-17 (5-8pm) down for REQUIRED CAMP!!! Camp is held at SMS. We bring in outside coaches to work with the team, BUT THERE IS NO CHARGE TO THE TEAM MEMBERS.

Attendance Policy. Please remember that once school starts, all CG members are required to be ALL practices, performances, and events listed above and on Advance Planner, or any other CG events that are announced in advance.
1) One unexcused absence from a performance/event will result in dismissal from the team. Illness or family emergencies are usually the only reasons for excused absences from performances/events.
* Absences must be cleared with MR WALLS right away. We should never have to ask a student why they missed!
* Absences can be cleared on Saturdays by calling the band room before the departure time. 392-2130, ext 5133 (BUT… do NOT leave a voice mail!!!!!) ….or use the email addresses below to send a message… or have student bring a signed parental note to school BEFORE the next practice
2) Repeated tardies and/or unexcused absences, or even a large number of excused absences from practices will also result in dismissal from the team. We will normally only issue one warning on this!!!
* In general, if a student is at school, they should be at practice, or it is an unexcused absence!
* If you know in advance of appointments or other conflicts with a practice, then MR WALLS should also know in advance!!
* Notes and emails are best ways to clear practice absences. If we have to ask the student where they were, then it will probably be an unexcused absence!!!
Color Guard Fees and Uniforms (payable to Standard Middle School by 9/2/11)
Uniforms are provided FREE OF CHARGE, courtesy of Standard School District and the Standard Music Boosters. We collect fees to pay for things you need to go along with the uniform. Assistance is available for all fees – JUST ASK! You do not have to pay for things you already have, so returners usually pay less than new members.
- * All members will need to provide their own pantyhose (NUDE, sheer-to-the waist), 2 pairs for each event
- * Band/guard shirts ($12, $14xxl), Guard Shoes ($23)(used shoes available for free if we have your size), uniform cleaning fee ($5) ……. FEE total if you need everything is $40.
- * Shirts and optional HOODIES are also available to students, parents, friends, etc. see WARRIOR WEAR.
Other Color Guard Requirements …. In order for our CG to be successful, we need both parents and student to make a major commitment to the team.
- * Guard members MUST commit to staying on the team for the entire FALL MARCHING season plus the SPRING practices, events and KNOTTS trip.
- * We will be setting 2011-12 CG Goals. We need girls with positive attitudes, good work habits, good attendance habits, and the ability to work with others to help us meet these goals. Girls who fail to contribute in a positive way could be removed from the team.
- * SMS requires CG members to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
- * Because of schedule conflicts, CG members can not also be on the VB teams. Basketball is OK.
Communications:
Mr W sends out regular updates via email. If you would like to be added to the list, please send him a message. Mr W email gwalls@standard.k12.ca.us and rotgc@earthlink.net. Be sure to identify yourself!
Before every event, students are given a written handout with complete info. For marching events and competitions these handouts appear about one week before the event (or as soon as we receive the info from the event chairman). These handouts are usually first posted here on the website.
